About the Magazine
From Spring of 1995 through Winter of 1996, 5-String Quarterly (5SQ) published a high quality, in-depth quarterly magazine aimed at 5-string banjo players who play what is commonly known as "3-finger" style. 5SQ had over 1,300 subscribers in 10 different countries around the world. Nearly 2,000 copies of each issue were distributed. Winter 1996 was the final issue of the magazine. By request, former managing editor, Eddie Collins, maintains these web pages and continues to offer all eight issues (the Spring 95 issue is out of print, but a high quality reproduction of the issue is included) and the accompanying instruction CDs. The cost of all 8 issues post paid (Priority Mail) is: $22 in the U.S.; $25 in Canada or Mexico (in US funds); and $32 foreign air (payable in US funds).
There originally was one 30 minute instruction tape per issue, which demonstrated each song and tab example at a slow and then fast speed. These tapes have been re-mastered to CD. We were able to combine two issues onto one CD and now sell all four CDs for a total of $20 (or $US 30 overseas air). Thus, the total for all of the issues and all the practice CDs would be $42 ppd. (or $US 62 overseas air). Many of the songs have a guitar practice track. Some of the examples are played by the artists themselves and used by special permission. You may order CDs when ordering the magazines or at a later date.
