Traditional – Each verse has the same melody. The second verse sometimes acts as a chorus.

From this valley they say you are going,
We will miss your bright eyes and sweet smile.
For they say you are taking the sunshine,
That has brightened our pathway awhile.

Just remember the Red River Valley.
And the one who has loved you so true.

I've been thinking a long time, my darling,

Now, alas, must my fond hopes all vanish,
For they say you are going away.

Won’t you think of the valley you're leaving?
O how lonely and how dreary it will be.
