About The Magazine
From Spring of 1995 through Winter of 1996, 5-String Quarterly (5SQ) published a high quality,
in-depth quarterly magazine aimed at 5-string banjo players who play what is commonly known
as "3-finger" style. 5SQ had over 1,300 subscribers in 10 different countries around the world.
Nearly 2,000 copies of each issue were distributed. Winter 1996 was the final issue of the magazine.
By request, former managing editor, Eddie Collins, will maintain this home page and continue to
offer all 8 issues (and the accompanying instruction CDs) for sale until there are no complete
collections left to be sold (there were about 150 sets still available as of 1/1/2001) .
The cost of all 8 issues post paid (Priority Mail) is: $22 in the U.S.; $25 in Canada or
Mexico (in US funds); and $46 foreign air (payable in US funds). An instruction
CD (or cassette tape) is available that demonstrates all of the songs and examples
depicted in tablature throughout each issue. Each example is played slow and then
fast, often with a guitar rhythm track for practice. The cost of each CD or tape
is $5 ($8 overseas). You may order CDs or tapes when ordering the magazines or at a later date.
